Warden Samuel Norton abuses his legitimate power, or power of his position, along with both reward and coercive power to use and abuse prisoners for his own personal gain, even going so far as to have one shot in order to protect his financial and personal interest.
Tommy, the young prisoner who came into the prison knew of the person who actually "killed" Andy's wife and lover. Once this was brought up to Andy he soon was in the warden's office. Andy was explains what had "really" happened. It was shown on the Warden's face that no matter what Andy said he was not getting out of Shawshank. While Andy got 2 months of confident, then Norton was on the hunt to have Tommy killed so he wouldn't get his time in court to prove that Andy was innocent. This was unethical of Norton to take his power above and beyond what he truly was allowed. Also this part weighed heavy on my heart of the unfairness that was given to Andy.
